By means of refreshing we are able to transfer PCB's (only with immersion tin finish) with soldering problems by post-tinning again into a solder able condition.
The refresh concept differs to the stocking concept only in one point: The PCB's to be pending for the storage are not uncoated copper, but already have a immersion tin finish. The reasons for refreshing on the one hand can be obsolescence of the coating or a general bad quality in solder ability.
Besides, the tinning expires in the „tin on tin procedure“ – the tin thickness rise follows in pure tin around 0,1 - 0,25 µm (in dependence of the intermetallic phase).
In cooperation with the Frauenhofer Institut ISIT we have proved in an investigation row that the copper interests of the intermetallic phase while post-tin-plating are extracted by the "refresh"-process and therefore the pure tin deposit is being increases again clearly in coating.
The process of refreshing is often cheaper than the new production of a PCB quantity. On this way expenses for your end user can also be saved. The storage and „just in time“ – balancing has the advantage for your customer that the product does not come again to an obsolescence and is "freshly delivered on the mounting line.
